GG blús is a bluesy rock duo from Reykjavík, Iceland. Manned by Gudmundur Jonsson on guitar and vocals and Gudmundur Gunnlaugsson on drums and vocals. A minimal lineup with a bombastic sound, resembles the anglo-American duets such as The Black Keys, The White Stripes and Royal Blood. Their live performance and song craft reveal a deep-rooted faith and knowledge of old-school blues, but also responsiveness to contemporary influences.
The Gudmunds have been prominent in the Icelandic music scene for years, working in bands such as Sálinni hans Jón míns, Sixties, Nykur, Kentár to name a few.
Their live performance and song craft reveal a deep-rooted faith and knowledge of old-school blues, but also responsiveness to contemporary influences. Punch is the name of their debut album released in August 2019 and makes the most of its aesthetic choices and the spaces between riffage and the big beat. With seven orginal songs and three surprising covers, the album illustrate their aptitude for well-crafted structures and melodies in low-fi, garage rock style.
– Punch – is the name of their debut album released in August 2019 and makes the most of its aesthetic choices and the spaces between riffage and the big beat. With seven orginal songs and three surprising covers, the album illustrate their aptitude for well-crafted structures and melodies in low-fi, garage rock style.
The new album – Trouble In Mind – which was just released this year 2025, can be said to be a sister album to Punch, as it is similar in format, i.e. seven original songs mixed with three evergreen covers in unusual arrangements, where the unbridled primal power of blues-rock is enjoyed, but you still never know what awaits you around the corner.
But it is when they step on a stage that GG blús completely transform. Their gigs are usually radiant with true chemistry and grit ‘n’ groove-energy, blasting out their distinctive songs and assorted covers to their very limits. The sight of two men with their instruments and excellent harmonies playing enough notes for four – is a sight to behold!
GG blús has been gigging hard and building up following in Iceland for years, both in blues festivals and assorted gigs around the country and are eager to seek opportunities to present their artistry abroad.
